elementis bought As of August 31, 2007, Elementis Pigments is now Rockwood Pigments, (Davis Colors). Rockwood made an unsolicited offer to buy Elementis earlier this year, and after months of review by the FTC, the sale was finally approved. The two companies will continue to operate as usual while integration takes place, and it is anticipated that no major changes will take place until after the 1st of the New Year. Rockwood purchased Elementis as part of a global strategy to increase market share. While both companies are strong here in North America, Rockwood has a much larger share in Europe, and Elementis enjoyed a dominant position in the Asia Pacific market. This combined with Elementis’ manufacturing facilities in China, made them the perfect fit for Rockwood’s global position. Another factor in the purchase was Elementis’ strengths in sales, technical service, and customer service.
